LOTD: The Summer Solstice Temple by FireArrow

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

lotd_summertemple

A beautiful journey through rooms of sand and stone, FireArrow makes his LOTD debut with The Summer Solstice Temple. The gameplay is consistent and challenging, and the design is absolute. Players of all skill levels will enjoy this level, with its precision and alluring scenery, and advanced users will enjoy the challenging traps and puzzles. You start with a measly 50 jump impulse and collect jump-powerups as you make your way through the temple’s many chambers. A generous time limit and life count makes this an excellent leaderboard challenge. Outstanding job, FireArrow. Congratulations! -boberto

Linden’s Sand Castle Island: Video Walkthroughs

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Yesterday I created a level called Linden’s Sand Castle Island by okaysamurai. It’s a complex Atmosphir world with lots of moving platforms, puzzles, box pushing, secret areas, bombs, traps, enemies, and more. As a case study, I made 2 videos for this level: one from a player perspective (showing you how to beat the level and find all the secrets), and one for designers (walking through the creation process and giving tips along the way). So no matter what type of Atmosphir user you are, hopefully you can get something out of this!

This play walkthrough shows you the path to the finish flag and multiple secrets, like extra lives and 5 hidden diamonds. (blip.tv | youtube)

This design walkthrough is a little longer, and touches upon techniques like creating a compelling environment, using moving platforms as bridges, dealing with jump = 50 power, and more. (blip.tv)
