Help: Atmosphir doesn’t update properly.

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

As we add new content into the game, from time to time you will see a prompt appear when you first enter the main menu. When you press OK, the game will download and install the new components, and you will need to restart Atmosphir to see the changes in effect.

If updating does not work, try the following steps:

+ Usually you will see an error message with buttons to try and recover or re-download the update. Try pressing the buttons to see if recovery is possible. If so, the game will begin the download and installation process again.

+ Check to see if the update really went through. Sometimes - particularly in older versions of Atmosphir (1.6 and below) - the error message shows up sometimes even though the update went through. Read the release notes in the news section and see if your copy includes the latest features.

+ When all else fails, delete your current version of Atmosphir and download a fresh copy of the latest version.

Help: How do I keep track of all my uploaded levels?

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

When you’re in the Play Browser (Main Menu > Play), go to the drop-down menu on the left (under Global Community) and select the option “My Levels.” This will display a list of any levels you have uploaded, including star rankings and any comments they might have. You may delete obscene, spammy, or negative comments by clicking the red “x” that appears next to them (you can currently only do this for your own levels).

Help: How do I tell my friends how to find my level?

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

We are currently working on several exciting features that will make level sharing much easier than it is now. For the time being, tell your friends to:

1. Go to the Play Browser (Main Menu > Play).
2. In the search box on the right, type in your username (for example, my username is “okaysamurai”). Click Search.
3. In the left drop-down filter, select “All Levels.”

This will search for all levels with the word “okaysamurai” in the level or designer name.

Help: How do I upload my level?

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Once you’re ready to share your masterpiece with the rest of the world, click the orange upload button in the top design mode toolbar (to the right of the green play button). This will bring up an upload dialog window, where you enter the information other people will see while searching for your level. If you haven’t signed into your account yet, you’ll need to do so now (make sure you’re connected to the internet).

The upload dialog will automatically take a screenshot. If you don’t like what you see, press the cancel button and reposition the camera until you get something more representative of your level. You might want to press the “G” key to toggle the grid off, and “V” to switch between different floor views. Once you’re happy with your picture, type in a level name and description. The description might tell a background story behind your creation, give players hints, or explain certain goals or guidelines. Please note that uploaded levels must comply with Minor Studios’ Upload Policy.

Once you’ve filled everything out, click the Upload button at the bottom, and after a short loading window, you will get a confirmation message. Now your level is live for any Atmosphir player in the world to play! You can find it in the “My Levels” filter in the Play Browser.

Help: How do I test my level?

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

After designing for a little while, you might want to playtest your level to see how a player would see it. First, make sure you have a start flag (Category > Flags) somewhere in your level so your character will have a place to start. You should probably save your level too, just in case something crashes or goes wrong. Once you’re ready, click the green arrow button in the top toolbar.

You will immediately begin testing your level in play mode. Run around, try things out, see if you get stuck, etc. When you’re finished testing and want to return back to design mode, press Escape to pause the game, and click on the Menu button. This will return you back to design mode, where you can continue creating/modifying your level.
